Description

The Vineyard
The Umino Vineyard was owned and farmed by Dave Umino, a fifth generation Japanese American from a Central Valley farming family. After a career as a forensic metallurgist, in 1995 Dave replaced an old apple orchard with this vineyard. Dave passed away this past year and his family will continue to carry on the family legacy started by Dave. Planted to Pinot Noir Dijon clones 777, 667, 115 and 459 it is located southwest of Sebastopol at the top of Blucher Valley in what is unofficially referred to as the Sebastopol Hills of the Russian River Valley AVA. Cold maritime air funnels through the hills to moderate ripening of the fruit which produces wines of exceptional depth, concentration and character.

Tasting Notes

The 2019 Umino Vineyard is an undeniably flashy and delightful Pinot Noir that dazzles from nose to finish.  True to its Russian River Valley roots, the wine opens with a nose that shines with raspberry and blue fruits.  A rich, bottomless well of aromas and flavors creates a seamless bridge from nose to palate.  Once in the mouth, the fruit notes take on a bit of a brambly character, without sacrificing any purity, or richness of fruit.  Even at this level of concentration and intensity, the coastal influences at Umino keeps the wine fresh, and contributes tantalizing complexities of pine forest and pie spice.  An absolute riot of a wine.
