2021 UMINO VINEYARD Russian River Valley
$52.00
- Description
The Vineyard
The Umino vineyard is located southwest of Sebastopol at the top of Blucher Valley in what is unofficially referred to as the Sebastopol Hills of the Russian River Valley AVA. Planted to Pinot Noir Dijon clones 777, 667, 115 and 459 this vineyard replaced an old apple orchard. Cold maritime air funnels through the hills to moderate ripening of the fruit which produces wines of exceptional depth, concentration and character.
Tasting Notes
A particularly restrained Umino Pinot…at least by Umino’s standards! Our boldest site was reined in by persistently foggy mornings, which slowed sugar accumulation and allowed for significant acid retention in the grapes. An Umino bottling that simply crackles with energy. Dark and inky in the glass, the nose is reminiscent of a walk through the conifer forests of Sonoma’s coast. Cool black and blue fruits dominate the palate with an enduring freshness and intensity, genuflecting for an echo of pine forest to return, and spinning up the finish’s complexity.
